We have been importing wines from Domaine Albert Morot since our first visit in 2017. Over the last 10 years, the former owner, Geoffroy Choppin de Ganvry, has developed the estate into one of the top houses in Beaune. Some of you may have had the pleasure of meeting this charming Frenchman during one of his visits to WINE TIME in Dornbirn.
Many of our customers regularly purchase their 1er Crus, and you can also find a Burgundian wine or two from Albert Morot on the wine lists at Gasthaus Gemsle and Kornmesser Bregenz.
2024 was a year of change for Domaine Albert Morot. With no family successor for the “Château de la Creusotte” (the name of the estate's house/chateau) and Geoffroy having long dreamt of retiring to the Bahamas, the domaine was sold last year to the wealthy Poitrinal family from Paris. They have managed to bring on the well-known and renowned winemaker from the Rhône, Pierre-Jean Villa, as their oenologist.
Geoffroy and Pierre-Jean worked together on the 2022 vintage; as is the case everywhere in Burgundy, the wines are very fruity, accessible, and represent a solid, good vintage that doesn’t require long cellaring to reach its peak drinkability.
The 1er Crus from Domaine Albert Morot offer excellent value for money. Their wine style is traditional and typical of Beaune. The wines are juicy, with brighter berry notes than those from the Côte de Nuits, and are somewhat more light-footed. Nevertheless, their coolness and complexity are sure to make the hearts of true Burgundy lovers beat faster.
The 2022s arrived with us in January 2025, and we are delighted to be able to offer them now. A few individual bottles from 2018 and 2019 are also available upon request.
