The Weissburgunder Ried Bärenburg from Weingut Gross in southern Styria comes from one of the coolest parcels in Ratsch, situated at an altitude of 400–460 meters on Opok calcareous marl. The grapes are hand-selected and gently pressed, with spontaneous fermentation taking place in large wooden barrels, followed by approximately 38 months of aging in traditional wood and subsequent maturation on the fine lees in stainless steel.
In the glass, this Weissburgunder presents a medium golden yellow with silvery reflections. The nose reveals fine nuances of yellow stone fruit, meadow herbs, orange zest, macadamia nut, and wet stone—notes typical of the mineral soils of the Bärenburg vineyard. On the palate, the wine impresses with structured density, clear minerality, and a firm yet juicy acidity. A creamy texture and delicate pear aromas intertwine with spicy, nutty, and slightly smoky hints—a complex, cool style with a persistent, finely chiseled finish. With an alcohol content of around 13%, the wine is an ideal accompaniment to seafood, fish, asparagus, or mushroom dishes and offers considerable aging potential until around 2030.
