An exceptional red wine from Tuscany that captures the essence of the Chianti Classico region. It is composed of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot and comes from the best vineyard sites around San Casciano in Val di Pesa.
The grapes are carefully hand-picked and, after destemming, processed as whole berries without the use of pumps. Spontaneous fermentation takes place for about 15 days in open, conical stainless steel tanks with an automatic punch-down system. The wine is then aged for 20 months in used barriques and tonneaux (500–700 l), followed by 7 months in cement tanks and at least 3 months of bottle aging to complete its complexity and elegance.
In the glass, the Don Tommaso presents itself in an intense ruby red. The bouquet reveals aromas of ripe red and black berries, tobacco, and balsamic notes. On the palate, it is powerful, with well-integrated tannins and a long, harmonious finish.
This wine has received multiple awards, including 94 points from James Suckling for the 2021 vintage and 95 points from the Wine Advocate for the 2019 vintage.
Don Tommaso is an excellent accompaniment to rich meat dishes such as game ragout, braised beef, or aged Pecorino.
