The Rosso del Bepi is one of Giuseppe Quintarelli’s most extraordinary wines and has long enjoyed cult status among connoisseurs. Named after "Bepi," Giuseppe Quintarelli’s nickname, this cuvée is produced only in special vintages when the family's perfectionism does not allow for an Amarone. Rather than making compromises, the wine is released as a Veneto IGT – though in terms of quality, it is often on par with Amarone. It is precisely this uncompromising philosophy of quality that makes the Rosso del Bepi one of Italy's most fascinating red wines.
The cuvée is based on the traditional grape varieties Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella, complemented by small portions of international and autochthonous varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo, Croatina, or Sangiovese. The grapes come from the limestone- and basalt-rich hillsides of Valpolicella Classico and, similar to Amarone, are carefully selected after harvest and dried using the appassimento method. The loss of water concentrates the aromas, acidity, and extract before the wine is slowly fermented and subsequently aged for around seven years in large Slavonian oak barrels.
In the glass, the Rosso del Bepi combines the depth and concentration of a great Amarone with remarkable freshness and elegance. Dark cherries, dried plums, violets, tobacco, licorice, spices, and fine balsamic notes define the complex bouquet. On the palate, the wine feels powerful, yet precise and almost weightless. Its lively acidity, fine-grained tannins, and enormous length lend it impressive balance and aging potential spanning many decades.
The Rosso del Bepi is not a "little Amarone," but rather one of the most distinctive and sought-after red wines of the Veneto. It unites the legendary signature of the Quintarelli estate with extraordinary finesse and is among those wines that impressively demonstrate that true greatness is defined not by classification, but by uncompromising craftsmanship and origin.
