The Brunello di Montalcino Pelagrilli by Siro Pacenti takes its name from the vineyard site in the north of Montalcino where the estate is also located. It is the more accessible of the house's two Brunellos—yet in terms of quality, it is anything but a "lesser" wine. For us, it is one of the best value-for-money finds in Montalcino.
The nose immediately reveals Tuscany: macchia, Mediterranean herbs, dark berries, and tobacco, accompanied by fine notes of wood and spice. Complex, warm, and spicy, without ever feeling heavy.
On the palate, the Pelagrilli is muscular and taut, with grippy, ripe tannins and solid structure. Nothing feels dry or brittle—juicy fruit and the underlying freshness of the Sangiovese keep the wine lively and ensure excellent drinkability.
A characterful Brunello di Montalcino that combines power and modern polish with the typical herbal spice of its origin. A lot of Brunello for the money—and an outstanding entry into the world of Siro Pacenti.
