The Brandstatt vineyard in the Spitzer Graben is one of the most distinctive sites in the Wachau. Deep, humus-rich soils and the long evening sun provide ideal conditions for Grüner Veltliner with high minerality and elegance. Around 50-year-old vines are rooted in the steep terraces and are tended exclusively by elaborate hand labor – a true hallmark of quality for the Grabenwerkstatt.

Since 2021, the Grabenwerkstatt is no longer a member of the Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus; therefore, the traditional designations Federspiel and Smaragd no longer appear on the labels. For the two winemakers, the focus today is on the origin—the vineyard site—while classification based on must weight (potential alcohol) is becoming increasingly less relevant due to climate change.
