The Brandstatt vineyard in the Spitzer Graben is one of the most characterful sites in the Wachau. Deep, humus-rich soils and long hours of evening sun provide ideal conditions for Grüner Veltliner with high minerality and elegance. Around 50-year-old vines take root in the steep terraces, tended exclusively by laborious manual work – a true hallmark of quality for Grabenwerkstatt.

Since 2021, Grabenwerkstatt has no longer been a member of the Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus; therefore, the traditional designations Federspiel and Smaragd no longer appear on the labels. For the two winemakers, the focus today is on origin – the vineyard site – while classification based on must weight (potential alcohol) is becoming increasingly less significant due to climatic changes.
