Castello di Monsanto – Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione "Il Poggio" 2021

Here it is – the legendary "Il Poggio," which has appeared in this classification since the creation of the Gran Selezione DOCG. With the 1962 Il Poggio, Fabrizio Bianchi brought the first single-vineyard Chianti Classico to market. Even then, the concept of terroir was deeply rooted in him. The cuvée is composed of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Colorino and Canaiolo. On the nose, there are wild berries, plum, Mediterranean herbs (macchia), cedarwood, tobacco, and earthy notes; on the palate, it is taut and opaque, with plenty of tension and drive leading to its salty, mineral finish. The wine has enormous aging potential, and it is well worth letting it rest in the cellar for a few years.
