With the Coteaux Champenois Bouzy Rouge 2022, Benoît Marguet shows that Bouzy is not only home to great Champagnes, but also to exceptional still wines. This strictly limited cuvée is made from 100% Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru chalk soils of Bouzy, spontaneously fermented, aged for 19 months in wooden barrels, and bottled without added sulfur. Only around 1,000 bottles of this wine were produced.
The bouquet combines red currants, wild strawberries, cherries, and fine spices with a distinctive chalky minerality. On the palate, the wine is silky, precise, and remarkably fresh. Fine-grained tannins, saline tension, and an elegant, long finish give it a Burgundian feel without denying its Champagne origins.
