Trummer am Obegg - Welschriesling Old Vines 2018

Sommeliers in major German-speaking cities have rediscovered the long-underestimated "Wölsch." Because this acidic, low-aromatic grape variety can do something that is truly refreshing in times of over-the-top fruitiness: be austere, cool, and wonderfully understated.

The old vines from Jürgen Trummer bring exactly that to the glass. Fruit is overrated here anyway. Instead, minerality, lively acidity, spice, and salinity take center stage. Lean, straight, and with real drive – a Welschriesling that reflects Southern Styria in its own unique way and is a fantastic alternative to Sauvignon Blanc and Morillon.

"Salty is the new fruity." And that is exactly what makes it fun – especially at the table. With classic fried chicken, this Welsch is a sure bet. And anything that has been generously drowned in Styrian pumpkin seed oil gets a new lease on life pretty quickly with this wine.
