The Sancerre "Le Château" from Domaine Vincent Pinard is an outstanding Sauvignon Blanc that impressively reflects the mineral depth and elegance of the chalk-rich soils of Bué in the Loire Valley.
The grapes for this single-vineyard cuvée come from a 0.6-hectare plot on Kimmeridgian limestone in Bué, one of the most renowned sites in the Sancerre appellation. The vines were planted in the early 1970s and benefit from the elevation as well as the soil's excellent drainage.
The domaine has been working biodynamically since 2018 and is in the certification process. After manual harvesting, the grapes are gently pneumatically pressed. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with natural yeasts. The wine is then matured for 10 to 12 months in a combination of 600-liter wooden barrels (demi-muids) and stainless steel tanks.
The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its authenticity. In the glass, "Le Château" presents a clear, pale gold color. On the nose, fine aromas of white flowers, citrus fruits, and a characteristic flint note, typical of the terroir, unfold. On the palate, the wine is fresh and silky, with a precise structure and lively acidity. The finish is long-lasting and mineral.
"Le Château" possesses remarkable aging potential and can be cellared until at least 2032.
This Sancerre pairs excellently with fish dishes, seafood, or Crottin (goat cheese) from Chavignol.
