The Domus Petri Cuvée from Bauer-Pöltl is one of our favorite gastronomic wines from Central Burgenland and shows that the region is capable of much more than powerful, heavy red wines. Here, Zweigelt – also known as Rotburger – and Merlot come together to create a wonderfully harmonious, juicy, and accessible cuvée.
Aging in used barriques gives the wine structure and a fine spice without masking the fruit. On the nose, it reveals dark berries, cherry, and plum, accompanied by subtle wood and spice notes. On the palate, the Domus Petri is juicy and structured, with fine-grained tannin, fresh acidity, and beautiful balance.
An uncomplicated but by no means trivial red wine from Central Burgenland: accessible enough as an entry-level wine, full of character for the dining table, and with excellent drinkability. A fine proof that cool, fresh, and elegant red wines can indeed be produced in Central Burgenland.
Particularly strong with meat dishes, pasta, pizza, or a classic snack – which is precisely why it is a true all-rounder in the hospitality industry.
