The manageable Côte d'Or (Burgundy), covering an area of 4,600 hectares, and small-scale farming structures, which suffer greatly under the Napoleonic inheritance law, are the mecca of viticulture for many wine lovers. Calcareous soils outline the villages along the RN74. In Chablis, wines typical of their origin grow on Kimmeridgian limestone soils, and even outside the big names, a region like Beaujolais is regaining significance. The \"grands vins de Bordeaux\" are cuvées made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and a few other grapes, and are strongly influenced by the Atlantic. Left or right bank of the Garonne? In terms of quality, it really does not matter at all. On both sides, there are great wines for long-term storage, which have meanwhile become safer as investments than any building savings contract.
