The vines consist predominantly of Cabernet Sauvignon (about 75%), supplemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. A cool, damp summer required diligent work in the vineyard, but a sunny and dry September rescued the harvest, particularly in the Médoc. Cabernet Sauvignon, the primary grape variety in Pauillac, benefited significantly from this. Château Latour 2002 is regarded by connoisseurs as a very classic Pauillac – powerful, structured, and with clearly defined tannins. Despite the general restraint of the vintage, it displays typical Latour characteristics: deep concentration, firm structure, cedar, blackcurrant, graphite, and tobacco.
